It's as easy as 1, 2, 3!

We are always looking for bright minded students at both the middle and high school level to join our team.
Joining is simple: demonstrate interest, attend orientation, and train with your leaders.

01 Interest

The first step in joining our team is showing interest in speaking and arguing.

02 Orientation

In the spring, we will hold orientation for interested parties to learn about our team and the events we have to offer. During this time, new members will choose the event(s) they would like to participate in.

03 Training

After orientation, we begin to form the squads of our team. These squads then get together with their leaders to begin training for the up and coming season.

FAQ

  • What grade can I join?

If you are a rising Freshman, rising Sophmore, or rising Junior, we have a spot on our team for you!

We currently do not allow rising Seniors to join our team as their time with us will be cut short by graduation and college acceptance.

  • When can I join?

Recruitment starts at the beginning of the year (around February) and ends before orientation (around the end of March).

  • I missed the recruitment deadline, can I still join?

Although we want as many new members  as we can get, deadlines are very important to us. We do not currently allow students to join our team past the deadline for recruitment as we begin novice training directly after the deadline ends.

If able, we always recommend they try again the following year!

  • What are the expectations for the team?

On our team, we have strong expectations for both our new members and returning members. Our members are expected to attend at least 5 tournaments per season, most of their squad meetings, and all of the team meetings (every few wednesdays).

We understand that some students have other activities to attend, so there are obvious exceptions to attending meetings, but we stand firm on tournament requirements. If you do find yourself unable to attend an event, be sure to communicate with your leaders well in advance.

  • Will Speech and Debate interfere with my other activities?

Many of our members have packed schedules that include activites such as sports, band, theatre, volunteering, and school clubs. Speech and Debate should be treated as a priority, but with proper organization and communication, it can be worked into any schedule.

If you have any concerns about time management or expectations, feel free to contact us through our website or visit Mr. Bennett in Mobile 228.
